I have been counting down the days until fall since the first day of summer. I know, how dare I say that, but I am just not a summer person. I try to like the summer, I really do. But, I think I like the idea of it more than I actually like it. Sure, it was great when we were in school and we had 3 months off. But now, unless you’re a teacher, summer is just the same as any other time of the year, except it’s hot (and your office is freezing).
There is nothing I loathe more than being hot. I can’t even put into words how much I do not enjoy the heat. It makes me cranky and irrational even more so than being hungry does. I would pick being cold over being hot a thousand times, forever.
If I’m not at the gym and I’m sweating, I.am.not.okay. There’s nothing worse than getting ready to go do something on a 90 degree day and having to very carefully pick your wardrobe, as to be sure its a material that doesn’t easily show sweat. That requires so much effort and I’m just not on board with it. Plus, my skin is pasty white, so ten minutes in the sun and I’m fried. Whether it’s brunch, outdoor shopping, or a baseball game, I smell like sunscreen and I feel sticky. No thank you.
75 degrees and below is the only temperature that I’m into, and it’s my dream to live in a place where it stays like that all year ’round. So yes, I do enjoy a nice summer night or a breezy summer afternoon, but besides that, count me out. For every person who “just has to be outside” on a 90+ degree day, there’s a person like me who just has to be anywhere with air conditioning.
Anyways, rant over, now I’ll get to my point. I live for fall. I have so much love for fall and I look forward to it more and more every year. I never met a chunky sweater or a scarf I didn’t like. And sure, wearing sundresses and wedges is fun, but put me in jeans and boots and I am the best version of myself that I can be.
Aside from the fashion, there are just so many things to do. Going to a winery will always be more enjoyable when you’re not sweating. Pumpkin patches and apple picking will make even the most miserable person smile. And how much more fun is baking in the fall than it is any other time of year? So many pumpkin recipes, so little time.
Let me just make one thing clear: I hate Pumpkin Spice Lattes (or “PSL’s as they’re so adorably referred to as). I think they’re too sweet and they taste like pure syrup. The excitement for these to make there way back into Starbucks at the beginning of the season is completely lost on me and I’m not going to support it. I’d rather not drink a 300 calorie coffee so I can post it on Instagram with the leaf emojis as a caption. There’s no way people actually like these things, right? I swear some people drink them strictly because it makes them feel trendy. I don’t know, I’m speculating, but definitely think I’m at least a little bit right. #boycottPSLs2017
Anyways, here’s hoping these last 48 days of summer are bearable. If you need me, I’ll be in the air conditioned Target trying on sweaters or in my air conditioned apartment online shopping for boots.
